ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the views of Anne Conway, Mary Astell, and Émilie du Châtelet on the duty that arises from the belief in a perfect God. I show that each of these philosophers holds that, in creating, God communicates his perfections into the world. This results in several powers, abilities, and capacities in creatures, the most important of which is freedom, and a duty to perfect them.
