ABSTRACT

President Michael Sorrell's commitment to the art and practice of relationship management has been effective in creating a culture at Paul Quinn where serving and empowering others is a natural way of life. Sorrell's motto of "WE Over Me" is emblematic of the core principles of servant leadership, which emphasize increased service to others, a holistic approach to work, promoting a sense of community and the sharing of power in decision-making. Various community engagement activities allow students to build their servant leadership skills and participate in learning experiences that are transformational in nature. More importantly, exposing students to hands-on servant leadership opportunities helps build their leadership skill tool kit, which can contribute to their becoming more well-rounded individuals. President Sorrell has prioritized three distinct areas in his re-branding of Paul Quinn and includes a focus on: Servant leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Academic excellence.
