ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the pastoral role of the teacher. It discusses the important links between a child’s social and emotional well-being and their academic progress. Throughout the school year, the teacher builds a good rapport with the children in the class. Every teacher must be aware of the legislation and policy that have been implemented to ensure children are safe, happy and well. Children’s attendance at school also relates to the teacher’s pastoral role. School Attendance provides guidance for schools and school governing bodies. This provides the statutory expectations for attendance at schools and outlines the measures schools can take to ensure that children do not miss their education. There are a range of strategies that many schools use to support teachers with their pastoral role. It provides information about their aims and purposes and gives websites that teacher may want to access to find out more about them.
