ABSTRACT

This chapter presents Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) research and evidence-based practice for older people with depression. The emotional, psychosocial, and recreational potential of DMT in the treatment of depression in the elderly is reviewed and practical implications and potential applications are highlighted and illustrated using a case example. Indication and contra-indication of different interventions are provided. Recommendations for the therapeutic setting are outlined. The nature of ageing in combination with depression requires specific qualities and experience in the therapist, which are discussed. The conclusion highlights the effects of DMT for older people with depression with regard to various aspects of wellbeing.
