ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes that terrorism will continue even if the political and religious motivations for terrorism might change. It focuses on recruitment and radicalization, the reasons why individuals join terrorists' groups. These reasons include a need to belong, a search for purpose or meaning in life, or a desire for excitement and adventure. The first two reasons have been used by both cults and terrorist groups to recruit members. The book offers that further suggestions for combatting the cyber recruitment tactics used by terrorists, as does the Department of Homeland Security. Communities can prevent terrorism if they engage in efforts to make people resilient to the recruitment attempts of terrorists; help individuals learn to recognize when they are being recruited; or help them resist the attempts by turning to their families and friends for support.
