ABSTRACT

The DREAM Act bill requires that immigrant youth must: enter the US before age 15 to be able to obtain lawful employment; spend five years in the US; be a high school graduate or equivalent; complete two years of college or military service; obtain conditional residence; have a good moral character. Supporters of the DREAM Act believe it will lead to more college graduates, future taxpayers, new soldiers, and economic benefits. However, those opposed to the bill argue that passing the DREAM Act would make the US a magnet to other illegal immigrants and will encourage more illegal immigration, which in turn will lead to more problems to deal with in the future. Some of the young DREAM Act supporters focused on using the social media platforms, leading to new online activist websites like DreamActivist.org. These undocumented immigrant youths chose to turn to these online platforms for better organization, networking, and mobility.
