ABSTRACT
This article discusses the contemporary practice of engraving family photographs on gravestones, in a small Romanian Transylvanian village, Vinerea, focusing on cases when only one of the spouses is dead. I aim to analyse the connection between this practice and the survivor’s experience of social deterioration. Does it cause it or alleviate it?
