ABSTRACT

An initiative which has proven successful in connecting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lighten their load by sharing experiences and learning from each other is the CEO Institute. There are many opportunities and challenges which come with being a CEO. The CEO Institute has been operating for over twenty years as a membership organisation for Chief Executives. It is based in all Australian mainland state capitals and Auckland. There are also other Institute activities, such as business lunches and social functions, where members can mix across syndicates to widen their networks. A notable feature of many members' backgrounds is the movement they have made between sectors over time. All this brings enrichment to the syndicate, especially for not for profit (NFP) members. A key role for the syndicate chair is to encourage members to feel free to talk honestly about personal challenges in their work life.
