ABSTRACT

The leadership of the community services industry faces a challenge that is truly exciting—to take charge of the future by understanding the issues beyond the task of service delivery. The Community Services Industry faces unprecedented reforms, with a significant focus on the marketisation of the industry, through the application of competition policy. The lack of evidence about the delivery of outcomes in community services is a limited and limiting analysis. Organisations already deliver outcomes; that is they deliver change in the lives of people that they work with. The community services industry has long been subject to the forces of competition through competitive tendering and more recently direct reforms to funding that place service users at the centre of the service delivery and choices about it. In accepting the challenge and tackling issues of reputation, performance and productivity people have the opportunity to rewrite the narrative and completely reshape the future of the Industry.
