ABSTRACT

Cambodia covers an area of 181,035 square kilometres. It borders Vietnam in the east, Laos in the north-east, Thailand in the north and west and the Gulf of Thailand in the south (RGC, 2008a). It remains a largely agrarian country with a rich endowment of fertile land and forest resources and an abundance of fisheries. Natural resources and agriculture are the basis of economy and livelihood, and indeed have been so since the Angkor Empire prior to the twelfth century (Chandler, 1992).
