ABSTRACT

The territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan occupies an area of 89,213 km2, a surface slightly smaller than the state of Indiana. Its location between latitudes 33° 23’N and 29°10 N, and its landlocked situation, result in a predominantly arid climate. Although 80 percent of the country is a dryland, part of the Western Highlands enjoy a Mediterranean-type climate which allows tree growth.
