ABSTRACT

“Sinic science” is a reference to the paper, “A Modern Interpretation of Sinic Science,” presented by Ji Shuli at the 1992 conference “Knowledge Across Cultures: Universities East and West” in Toronto. Ji’s paper offered a telling reappraisal of Western science by comparing the epistemological foundations of the modern scientific perspective with the conceptual orientations of traditional Chinese philosophy. His paper has subsequently been included in the English and Chinese editions of the book containing the major papers presented at the Toronto conference (Ji, 1993).
