ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies the overarching logic of German and Japanese capitalist structures by utilizing an institutional approach that incorporates and analyzes the interactions within and among political, economic, and organizational factors, among others. It shows how institutional cooperation is a major feature in the capitalist structures of Japan and Germany this chapter present four parts. The chapter provides national statistics for both countries to assess how the two economies compare side by side in general terms. It analyzes each country's industrial structure to highlight their organizational distinctiveness. The chapter compares Japan's and Germany's capitalist structures in terms of contributing institutional sectors. It summarize the comparative overview of the Japanese and German economies by further elaborating the concept of capitalist cooperation as a key framework for understanding the institutional foundations of both economies. In the economic structures of both Germany and Japan, institutional cooperation appears within institutions and between institutions.
