ABSTRACT

The state of the social sciences was evaluated in the course of implementing the program of the Twenty-seventh Congress of the CPSU and restructuring all spheres of life in our society, in the important decisions adopted this year by the Central Committee, and in a number of statements by leading party figures. Moreover, tasks were set for further improving the methodological foundations and organizational structure and for raising the ideological, political, and practical role of the social sciences in the life of our society. These fundamental evaluations and tasks were formulated in the resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU "On the Journal Kommunist"; in the speech of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, M. S. Gorbachev; at the All-Union Conference of Heads of Social Science Departments; and in the report at the meeting by E. K. Ligachev, member of the Politburo and secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, and in his address to the General Assembly of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
