The specificity of the scientific concepts and categories with which economic sociology must operate derives from the principal goal of this science, namely, to coordinate and synthesize the economic and social development of society. Two areas of science are most closely related to economic sociology: the study of the economic foundations of social differentiation of social groups, and the analysis of the social factors affecting economic development. The specific features of the subject matter of economic sociology are reflected in the distinctive features of its method. Economic sociology has deep roots in the history of social thought, but it is also a timely scientific discipline addressing the tasks of improving developed socialism in the USSR.
