ABSTRACT
Colonization marked the incorporation of particular societies into the world system, or the intensification of previous linkages. Marx and Lenin viewed the global expansion of advanced capitalism as progressive in the sense that it would batter down precapitalist modes of production wherever they existed and bring about capitalism on a world scale, a prerequisite to socialist revolution.
