ABSTRACT

Bashkiria, four times the recipient of decorations of honor, is preparing to celebrate—in company with the whole friendly family of equal Soviet republics jointly engaged in building communism—a momentous anniversary of our unified multinational state. Bashkiria’s incorporation into Russia marked a turning point in the history of the Bashkir people, for it sealed their friendship and unity with the great Russian people for all time to come. The progressive significance of Bashkiria’s inclusion in the Russian state is also manifested in the fact that the working masses of the area rose up in arms, together with the Russian people, to fight against the autocracy. The workers of Bashkiria experience fraternal assistance and friendship every day, in the course of their practical affairs. The annexation of Bashkiria, following the Russian conquest of the Tatar khanate of Kazan’ in 1552, is traditionally dated in Soviet historiography from 1557.
