ABSTRACT
In 1996 and early 1997, Indonesia was on its way to become one of the aspiring newly industrialized countries of Southeast Asia. Among the emerging countries, Indonesia was still behind Thailand or Malaysia, but most Indonesian macroindicators were moving in the right direction.
