ABSTRACT

Nivelco Kft. has had a spectacular career in the production of industrial measuring instruments and sensors. Nivelco’s product structure can be considered unique if compared with foreign companies of the same size. Nivelco established a strategic relationship with Puskos Tivadar Industrial Cooperative in the 1980s. The basis for this relationship was Nivelco’s considerable Research and development (R&D) capacity, which had been created in the 1970s. Nivelco was among the first companies to react to favorable changes in Hungarian corporate legislation in 1989, when a wide range of options among corporate forms became available to Hungarian firms. Nivelco Ltd. developed from a craftsmanship plant with three employees into a medium-sized firm with eighty employees in 1993. The rapid growth of the company create problems for Nivelco Ltd. Rigorous compliance with technological standards and the maintenance of a constantly high level of quality require new management practices. The company’s strategy is focused on a technology-, innovation-, and R&D-driven expansion onto international markets.
