ABSTRACT

Glavunion a.s. is a leading flat-glass producer in the Czech Republic and in Central and Eastern Europe. Sklo Union, the Czech parent company of Glavunion, was not only the largest producer of both flat and container glass in the former Czechoslovakia but also the largest producer of flat glass in Central and Eastern Europe. A new firm, Glavunion, was established and incorporated in January 1991 as a fully owned subsidiary of Sklo Union. Glavunion, as stated above, is a joint-stock company. All shares are common shares registered in the name of the shareholder. The general shareholders’ meeting is authorized to make decisions on all issues provided for by law. Glavunion’s major product lines did not change during 1991–1994. Production focused primarily on construction and the automotive industry. Glavunion’s financial strategy was to diversify its financial resources and keep the financing costs low. Glavunion is one of the earliest cases of foreign direct investment in the Czech Republic.
