ABSTRACT
In this chapter, author will concern herself with fetishism and since she want to use exile-produced television as a site for reading the polysemy and the dynamics of the slipzone of liminality, particularly fetishism, it is necessary to become familiar first with the discourse of such TV programs. She focuses on its role in promoting ethnic solidarity. Seen in this way, the discourse on fetish, fetishism, and stereotyping becomes productive not only in the discussion of personal relationships but, more importantly for this paper, in the context of cultural difference and cross-cultural power relationships. In exile, dual fetishism based on disavowal of both the lack and the separation is operative, as a result of which the exiled subject vacillates between the binary pairs of active/passive, controlling/ submissive, stability/instability.
