ABSTRACT

The Classification of Violence Risk (COVR) was developed with the goal of offering clinicians a structured tool to assist in their estimation of the risk of violence to others posed by an individual with a mental disorder. COVR is an interactive software program designed to estimate violence risk over the first several months after discharge from a mental health facility. The program consists of 40 risk factors and specifies how each risk factor is to be measured and how all risk factors are to be combined to yield an overall estimate of violence risk. Finally, COVR allows the clinician to review and potentially modify this estimate in the context of other (unstructured) available information, before issuing his or her final prediction.
