ABSTRACT

In 2008, George Mason University was awarded a 5-year 325T Personnel Development grant. In order to equip graduates and undergraduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the requirements of IDEA and to assist children in achieving state standards, there were five overarching goals of each 325T grant. The work described in this chapter is relevant to two of these goals: to improve curriculum and course content and to improve the organizational structure and instructional delivery of the preparation program. An analysis of the 33-credit special education graduate licensure certificate program revealed several areas of improvement in addition to the 325T requirement to integrate evidence-based interventions that improve outcomes for children with high-incidence disabilities into a redesigned program. The chapter provides a description of the emergent collaboration and how the outcomes of this project were designed to improve the special education and general education teacher preparation curriculum.
