ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with teaching writing in science and technology. ‘Technology’ is broadly interpreted here as equivalent to applied science, including engineering. I begin this chapter by placing a limitation on the area of science and technology writing that I include in my discussion. On the one hand, I focus on undergraduate student writing (although the approach may also be used with postgraduate students), and, on the other, I limit my discussion to a genre of writing common to both science and technology: the student laboratory report.
