ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a genuine innovation in providing feedback to students that was originally suggested in 2006. The adoption of screen-capture (SC) feedback would normally require the students to change to electronic delivery of their written work. The idea of using technology to provide media-rich feedback to students is nothing new. As the technology improved, so did the feasibility of the idea. The whole idea around SC feedback is to get the students engaged in the process. The early work on SC feedback was done in the area of English language teaching. The introduction of new technologies such as JING, which allowed for the videos to be saved in the cloud, led to new studies in the area of language teaching. The ability to expand on points, offer alternatives, and highlight positive aspects of the work means that the indirect feedback can help scaffold and build on the learners' knowledge.
