ABSTRACT

Indeed, many mobile language learning apps are based on behaviorist principles, and we expect to see both of these teacher roles continue as part of the digital learning landscape in 2020. This chapter focuses on identifying some of the changes in education that are already underway. It considers what these changes might mean for English language teaching, learning, and training in the near future. The chapter looks by briefly at how the future of education is perceived by non-English language teaching (ELT) educators. It considers how technological changes will affect the professions as a whole. The chapter considers to be some significant current technology trends and their relevance to the future of ELT. It focuses on only a few of these trends. Futures studies is a well-established academic discipline dedicated to identifying future trends and what they might mean for us on environmental, political, economic, technological, and educational levels.
