ABSTRACT
This final chapter explores the notable similarities and differences across the host city/country chapters. The chapter begins with a consideration of the significant increases in the cost of hosting the summer games before moving on to examine how community sport policy has converged and diverged. In regard to legacy, the chapter summarises how hosts have articulated and, in some cases, planned for legacy, noting the three clear phases in the evolution of the legacy concept from Atlanta, 1996, to Tokyo, 2020(+1). The chapter moves on to discuss the differences in the rhetoric and reality of the role that the Games plays in increasing mass sport participation. The chapter finishes with an overview of the key methodological and practical issues flowing from the host city/country chapters, including a consideration of further research that could help to retain a critical focus on legacy and perhaps improve the planning and realization of future legacies.
