ABSTRACT

Motion Bank, the four-year research project of The Forsythe Company that began in 2010, was a convergence of two key trajectories. One followed the interest William Forsythe had in providing access to his archive of rehearsal and production materials as part of The Forsythe Foundation initiative established in 2004 “dedicated to advancing the art of dance by promoting critical thinking in dance education and practice.”1 The plans drafted for the Foundation focused on accessing the “embodied knowledge” of the dancer and developing unique and accessible ways of “communicating choreographic ideas.”
