ABSTRACT

Scene 1. A slightly middle aged woman in bare feet, clad in loose red and white patterned pants and a long sleeve white top directly faces the camera. With intense eyes and the tiniest of a smile, she stretches her arms forwards and begins an intricate series of motions starting with the rotation of her st with the thumb extended. Repeat. The next movement comes, a slight variation of the rst. Suddenly, a new movement: extension of the right hand out and away from her chest. The movement seems dierent but emerges from the previous one. Another new movement: a slight bending of the right foot, which causes the entire body to shift in its vertical position. As new movements continually arise over the breathtakingly short minutes in which this “dance” occurs, they continually return to the initial starting point-the rotation of the st with the extended thumb. To watch this almost mathematically executed series of actions demands a combination of extreme concentration coupled with a heightened perception of how the slightest change and variation on a theme can produce stunning eects.
