ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the effects of aggressive cues on aggression and violence. It examines the effects of weapons that are merely present and are not being used by anyone, called the weapons effect. It also examines the effects of violent content in the mass media, called media violence effects. This chapter contains five major sections. First, I define the terms aggression and violence. Second, I present the General Aggression Model as a theoretical framework for understanding aggressive cue effects. Third, I briefly discuss the methods researchers use to study aggressive cue effects. Fourth, I discuss research findings on the weapons effect. Fifth, I will discuss research findings on media violence effects.
