ABSTRACT

The aim of this article is to demonstrate how the Poverty and Environment Initiative (PEI) has set out to increase awareness, change perceptions, and improve the way inter-sectoral decisions are made, especially in climate adaptation. The paper has been developed from the experiences of the PEI, a joint UNDP and UNEP programme implemented in 28 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe/ CIS, and Latin America. PEI is supported by the governments of Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Commission, together with local and international think-tanks. Case studies for this paper have been drawn from Stories of Change from the Joint UNDP-UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative (UNDP-UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative 2013).
