ABSTRACT

Performing Arts Center Management is about executive leadership to proactively adapt the relevance of the PAC to its community in an environment of constant change and evolving public expectations. Indeed, the overarching theme in all of the chapters of this book has to do with leading the relationship between the PAC as a cultural institution and its diverse communities’ needs and desires. It has been demonstrated that performing arts centers are key components of the creative and cultural industries ecosystem, yet research to date on hosting and presenting performing arts organizations-the focus of this book-is surprisingly scarce. Performing arts centers that host and present performances produced by other entities are found in all community sizes and locations, as well as universities, throughout North America and internationally. These institutions are frequently an anchor of economic development of downtown areas, and massive investment in both building and renovating these facilities can be seen around the world.
