ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how leaders and managers influence corporate social responsibility (CSR). It examines the association of leadership from two different perspectives. The first perspective refers to the theories about the leader as an individual including his/her personality, traits, abilities, skills, and charisma. The second perspective relates to the theories of a leader's behaviours and his/her interactions with followers. The chapter presents the definition of CSR and focuses on leadership theories of transformational and transactional leadership, charismatic leadership, responsible leadership, and ethical leadership. It provides an overview of the existing studies about leadership concepts and issues and then examines the challenges and implications of various theoretical approaches, particularly in business ethics within the CSR context. Whereas implementing CSR companies often face challenges, usually related to political matters or organizational concerns which are culturally embedded, there are new demands posed on organizations as they operate in a global society.
