ABSTRACT

The chapter examines how these concepts and experiences may exist in the contexts of schooling, teachers and the cultures of young people, in a fluctuating, sometimes oppositional and often tentative way, along with the potential for pedagogical development in the broadest sense. The exploration focuses on the internet and social media as virtual places, and how these play with hegemonic space. This area is of particular importance in that Twitter and similar social media are relatively recent phenomena with still emerging, and often contested, characteristics and conventions.
