ABSTRACT

This case study takes a different perspective on working on anti-racist and minority community issues. It is set in a Bengali community in the North West of England, and works primarily with women. The project was initially established to work on health issues, using local Bengali women as community assets.

The main themes covered in the study are:

Developing a broad range of local services

Creating education, training and employability opportunities

Building networks of local people (users, volunteers, etc.)

Recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers
