ABSTRACT

Aesthetic quality and detail awareness have always been the dominant characteristics in the making of an individual, or for that matter, even society. Our culture, tradition and heritage are often judged and viewed with strong weightage attached to these two significant underlying factors. This paper shall try to bring forth the role of aesthetic detailing in formulating design trends along the length of time. The effort is to project and spread aesthetic judgement to a wider canvass. The word 'design' encompasses a broad spectrum. Design can be viewed in conjunction to a number of applied philosophies and fields. The common-man, when he reviews design, is more bothered about its functional and visual quality. He looks for the two and three dimensional pleasures. It therefore becomes pertinent to pause and think here about the present day relationship between design, aesthetics and detailing in contemporary architecture.
