ABSTRACT
The bustling shopping streets of the neighbourhood of Deira, in the northwest of Dubai, are filled with a cosmopolitan crowd of traders. They have come to buy cheap wholesale imported Chinese or Asian goods (clothing, computer technology, perfumes, beauty products, and so on). These goods are then shipped by air or sea to retailers in the Maghreb and the Middle East as well as on the entire African continent.
