ABSTRACT
To achieve this, it would not be enough to investigate gated communities and their populations in isolation. We must view them in context, as identities and spatialized concepts of home are formed in contrast and in competition to those of other groups living outside the gates. So, our empirical study in Guangzhou has from the outset included adjacent neighborhoods, which normally receive only inadequate attention.
