ABSTRACT

The latter face the greatest difficulties because they lack all resources – monetary, cultural, and institutional – and they shuttle between the worlds without feeling at home in either of them. In both of these worlds, they are confronted with exclusionary practices of more powerful groups, who themselves struggle with their own sense of home. In many cases, these migrant workers will not be able to establish a new long-term home in their current place, but might eventually move on to urban Guangzhou or other places.
