ABSTRACT

However, the case study reported in this article is a prototype. There are many opportunities for more testing and further improvement. Although the Beijing case study successfully depicted the hierarchical networked urban landscape and described the statistical characteristics of its spatial structure, two additional experiments would help provide deeper insights. In other words, a cross-regional comparison between Beijing and another major Chinese city, or a longitudinal analysis of the spatial pattern changes of Beijing in different periods, would tell more about the effectiveness of the graphic framework and the sensitiveness of the quantitative indices. These tests are our next research efforts and important milestone for proving the hierarchical urban landscape structure design.
