ABSTRACT

Research literature supports the evidence that perceived parental acceptance or rejection has a strong influence on the child’s emotional, cognitive and behavioural functioning. It seems that parental rejection is strongly related to the child’s maladaptive behaviour. Parental behaviour perceived as neglecting, cold or aggressive correlates highly with children’s anxiety, depression, conduct disorders and delinquency. Research findings also indicate the differential influence of the father and mother on the child’s well-being.
