ABSTRACT

Over the last few months the issue of sexual violence in schools has achieved prominence in the United Kingdom (UK). In March 2016 the UK Government announced £3.85 million in funding for a new awareness campaign and educational resources to raise awareness and understanding of consent, sexting and relationship abuse amongst teenagers (HM Government, 2016). This was followed in April, with the initiation of a cross governmental inquiry by the Women and Equalities Select Committee, which, as I write this chapter, is in the process of collating evidence on sexual violence and harassment in schools (Parliament UK, 2016). Both build on the creation of a taskforce focussing on sexual violence and harassment in UK universities and the Higher Education sector (HM Government, 2016).
