ABSTRACT
Productivity recently has become the object of rejuvenated interest. National concern over rising prices without apparent rises in output has been a major cause. This inflation pinch has been felt severely in the local government sector of the economy where expenditures have been increasing at a rapid pace. Pressures to make the local government dollars go as far as possible-through increased productivity-appear likely to continue over the next few years at least.
