ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the contested nature of the environmental innovation and the green design. The article by Jesper Ole Jensen explored the relation between the two dimensions of flow management by using a typology of interactions between buildings and networks. The study of jesler shows the logic of network-building relationship that is very different in each case and that the actors generally try to avoid conflicts between each system. The case study by Simon Guy and Suzie Osborn demonstrated the contingent and contextual nature of technological innovation and building design. The case study by Regine Mauruszat examined how the social organization of green building developments shapes the success and failure of environmental design. When designing a green building the choice of in-house technologies is often limited by the need to fit into the surrounding technical infrastructure. The Copenhagen study demonstrated the importance of location and existing physical infrastructure in shaping the design, planning and implementation of environmental innovation in housing.
