ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the psychosocial dispositions that are conducive for the development of a person as a creative musician by systematically analysing the participant's interview narratives and by his field notes, using thematic analysis (TA). These accounts seemed quite appropriate in understanding the developmental ingredients of a musician. The chapter discusses the epistemological position adopted for the present study was that of constructionism in general and contextual constructionism in particular. It explains the term 'proclivity' means a propensity or natural tendency to behave in a particular way and a natural feeling that pushes somebody to make a particular choice or decision. The chapter describes the Western thinkers place great emphasis on the individual and his/her cognitive-motivational functioning, and view creativity as a process within a person.
