ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of a comparative analysis of the interaction between corporate cultures and regional cultures in seven different regions. These regional studies were carried out within the framework of the multidisciplinary project Corporate Culture and Regional Embeddedness (CURE). The literature on regional innovation systems (RISs) suggests that these positive and negative effects of embeddedness are related to broader, institutional characteristics of the region. Company employees who are culturally socialized in the region are likely to play an important role in intercultural exchange between regions and companies. Interaction between the regional culture of mutual commitment and corporate cultures results in intra- and inter-firm learning, with a positive impact on firms competitive performances. A framework of potential tensions and synergies has been used to analyse the regions and to identify the actions of companies and regional actors that contribute to the "virtuous circle".
