ABSTRACT

This chapter compares two regions: Southwest Brandenburg with the focus on Potsdam (Germany) and Gyr-Sopron-Moson County with the focus on Gyr (Hungary), according to factors and criteria that are essential in shaping regional and corporate cultures and their interaction. The comparison of Potsdam (Germany) and Gyr (Hungary) is justified mainly by the fact that both regions belong to former socialist countries that accomplished the transition to western European-type parliamentary democracy and market economy in the early 1990s. It attempts to answer the question, which negative and positive cultural factors of the past have survived and have affected regional and corporate cultures under totally different economic, social and political circumstances. According to the team of the CURE (Corporate Culture and Regional Embeddedness) project, regional culture is a set of traditions, common values, understanding and a common language, which makes it easier to interact with others.
