ABSTRACT

This chapter examines whether fathers' marital satisfaction that is, relationships within the parents' marriage is correlated with their involvement with their child with disabilities. The issue was assessed by two measures, the Marital Satisfaction Scale and the Father Involvement Scale. One of the aspects of contemporary research on fathers' involvement with their disabled children is its correlation with fathers' marital satisfaction. The Marital Satisfaction Scale, developed by Braun-Galkowska is a standardised measure that evaluates marital satisfaction of spouses. The importance of marital satisfaction in the context of parenting was outlined by Gelles, who claimed that the higher the level of marital satisfaction is, the more effectively parents' expectations are fulfilled within the range of their parental roles. In the presented research, Spearman's rank calculation coefficients were used to test which components of fathers' involvement with their disabled child are significantly correlated with their marital satisfaction.
