ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a case study of how a group of three teachers used various online learning platforms to engage their Grade 3 students in academic learning tasks. A case study approach is used as this is a case to examine the use and implementation of learning management system and online social software applications in a future elementary school situated in Singapore. The online platforms used by the teachers were open-source learning management systems and easily available online Web 2.0 online social software applications. Martn-Blas and Serrano-Fernndez describe the use of an open-source learning management system for an online course. Other than the chat and forum functions, quizzes were set and course materials and Java and interactive applets were also uploaded to facilitate students' learning. Many of the students completed digital works were stored in the school's computer network and their own portable storage devices.
