ABSTRACT
Web-scale discovery is rapidly becoming the chosen technology for libraries to facilitate access to and discovery of a multitude of resources. Two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)—Fort Valley State University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University—decided to take advantage of this emerging technology to improve user experiences. The article will discuss the selection and implementation process of Summon in consortium and nonconsortium environments, as well as the initial impact of implementing a discovery tool on information literacy, usage of electronic resources, and staff work flow. This discussion will provide practical insights and considerations for libraries that are considering the implementation of a discovery tool.
